FAQ for Funders
Q: Why do you do this?
A: Our focus is on children’s literacy as the most important issue in America. The crippling effects of illiteracy and the troubling statistics can be read about HERE, but consider these examples showing continued long-term effects, both on children and society:
- 2/3 of students who cannot read proficiently by the end of the 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare.(BegintoRead)
- Children who aren’t reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are four times as likely to drop out of high school. (Campaign for Grade Level Reading)
- 90% of welfare recipients are high school dropouts (BegintoRead)
Q: Why was Jeff Nathan your first chosen partner?
A: Jeff is a multi-award-winning author and presenter. He has almost twenty years of experience getting students excited to read through a unique blend of curriculum-based humor.
We arrange funding to provide top-tier literacy-inducing help for elementary-aged students and Jeff epitomizes that, both with his CurricuLaughs in Children’s Literacy programming and in his personalized mystery series for elementary students.
Q: Who are your other providers?
A: In March of 2020, we added Eric Ode of Washington State and Darren Sardelli from Long Island. Both are also children’s poets and are tremendously accomplished in the world of children’s literacy, with many accolades between them
Q: What sets you apart from the other non-profits that are vying for money for education and literacy?
A: We are connecting low- and moderate-income communities with the top literacy programming in the country, by multiple standards.
We are producing measurable and repeatable results which are important for school administrations and to our funding sources. (Grants, donations, etc.) As evidenced by the phenomenal measurement statistics, offerings we support get kids excited about reading like nothing else out there.
